Top 5 Favorite Songs of the Week by Matt Hodge

As some have already guessed, we of You Heard Me Right are avid music listeners, and are in a band of ourselves(beside the point. BTW, we’re called Toastbusters. Facebook it.), but I listen to five albums a week, and that seems crazy, but it’s how I musically “soar”. I win retarded line of the year. But anyways, here it is:

5. Modest Mouse-Float On

Sarcastic, funny, creepy and genius indie-garage band Modest Mouse scored their first radio hit with this one, and I see the reason why. Float On is one of the few hopeful songs that Modest Mouse has. It’s a refreshing view from songs that are about how much of idiots people are.

4. The Almost-Monster

The touching song from Christian emo rockers The Almost may be the best. They are talking about how Jesus saved them from being a monster. And the middle has a sweet steel guitar solo, so the six minute song is worth it.

3. Black Veil Brides-Knives And Pens

Yes, this is a huge hit right now. Do I care? No. The Black Veil Brides score pretty big with Knives And Pens, the emo kid anthem at this point. With Knives and Pens, they make their marks. Deep stuff right there

2. Five Finger Death Punch-Burn It Down

Rebel yell, anybody? Five Finger Death Punch went from stupid, generic rock that you hear on idiotic mainstream radio to hardcore, really mad punks who wanna kill. This will simply blow you away. It’s worth it. Trust me. Just. Click. The. Play. Button.

1. Bright Eyes ft. Gillian Welch-Lua

You’ve probably heard Bright Eyes somewhere, it might have been Lua. But you probably have not heard the duet with country singer Gillian Welch. With this song debuting on the compilation album Dark Was The Night, this is my favorite song on that album. It’s a happier tone of the song, but it seems like they are looking back on the incident, thinking of how much of idiots they were. It’s a great version, it’s got such heart that many musicians or “musical acts” cannot even begin to dream that they can pull it off. Bam.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

Iron And Wine-Die

Eatmewhileimhot!-All My Friends

The Glitch Mob-Drive It Like You Stole It
